New album Aspiral out in April.
The first single from this album Arcana was pretty good, but still not great. This new song Cross the Divide sounds as pop-like as Amaranth and while I like some of Amaranthe's songs. They do usually have one or two songs on their albums that are clearly made to appeal to a broader audience but this is definitely the poppiest (is that a word? lol) song they have ever released. Nothing wrong with liking pop metal by the way but it's just the opposite of what I'm looking for in Epica - I want the well, epic, long songs and great symphonies.
They were my favourite band for about 10 years because of their first 4 albums, especially their third album The Divine Conspiracy which is just banger after banger - perhaps that's the nostalgia talking though. Their fourth album Design Your Universe also carried this love I had for them a lot. Since then (2009) they they haven't released much that I liked everything on. Their fifth album was overall kind of bad, and outside of a small handful of songs on their sixth and seventh albums, they didn't really hit their stride again until The Solace System, an EP from 2017. Their eighth album also didn't have that many songs that I liked but enough about me though lol, hope others enjoy this song! I'd be very happy to recommend their songs that I consider essential listening irt. symphonic metal.
I've always liked that era of Epica's music and your thoughts on them echo my sentiments as well. I haven't listened to Epica's latest music, but will have to give it a try. Thanks!

Some of those comments called this Edge of the Blade 2.0, and I definitely agree with that.
