I was surprised to find this in my subscriptions feed on YouTube today. I'm a big fan of clipping. and Aesop Rock, and have a soft spot for nerdy rap as well, so this was definitely some sort of a perfect trifecta for me.

Something I noticed, which struck me from seeing his work on the song Weehawken from the show Central Park, is Daveed Diggs adopts the mannerisms of the people he's working with. "Weehawken" was written by the Seattle group Supercommuter and basically feels like a Supercommuter track.

Back to the song, something I couldn't shake about "Welcome Home Warrior" is he settles into a cadence that feels like Aesop Rock, before flipping back to the more prosaic hook. Diggs is pretty verbose as a rapper, but there was something about the style that felt closer to Aesop Rock. The first hook gives way to a 90-second feature by Aes, which is an exceptionally long feature, even for clipping., and then settles into Diggs having his own weird flow for the rest of the track.

I noticed that also. Il have to check out the other track you linked but I definitely felt that he was leaning to Aesops flow in this track.
