Been on a Hip kick lately. Never really listened to them before but I saw a Day for Night CD at the record store a few weeks ago and liked it and decided to download their whole discography. I like this song a lot. I'm an American-Canadian dual-citizen but I've never actually lived in Canada, so maybe this is just part of my civic duty :)

Ah, that explains it. I was wondering how you could have possibly avoided listening to them before now if you were a fellow Canadian. They still get a shit ton of radio and jukebox/bar/restaurant play up here, their music is featured in loads of other places (in commercials, shows, sports stadiums, etc), and before Gord's death they put on a MASSIVE farewell concert that was watched live by 11.7 million people. It's damn near impossible to have lived in Canada at any point in the last few decades and not heard most of their discography at some point, even if you never actually intentionally listened to their music. :P

Yeah, I've at least known of them for a long time and remember* hearing about their farewell concert and Gord's death, just never listened to them. I'm sure I've heard them some on the radio or whatever when visiting family/friends up there, of course, but didn't know it was them :P

Love seeing TTH posts on tildes! I grew up listening to them. In Between Evolution reminds me so much of spending time at friends’ cottages on Georgian Bay. It’s hard to choose a favourite though...

Edit: forgot my username is actually a hip reference!

Day for Night and Road Apples are such beautiful albums.

Thinking of the farewell tour gets me misty-eyed.

Almost 12 million Canadians watching a man with a terminal diagnosis do his best to hold the in-venue prime minister accountable for fixing Canada's relationship with indigenous peoples.

Moments that the public broadcaster was built for - they should probably make a Historical Moment out of that night ❤️❤️
