Always wished complextro had taken over back in the early brostep days, we almost had it, then didn't, then it rebranded as 'melodic dubstep' through artists like Ramses B, Mitis, and Seven Lions, and then it quietly went away (most won't know/remember this, but complextro for a short period of time was thought to eventually overtake brostep).1
After nearly twenty years complextro is finally starting to become more popular in EDM, but under the name "color bass" which is the same thing as complextro, just with a smidge more in-your-face bass (Au5 and Chime are the current leaders there if you're interested!). Other artists who were in the same formative era was Prismatic and Fractal, they all often worked with each other. Including with Savant on this incredible remix of Scatman.
This song is really colorful with a little bit of vaporwave (ala Saint Pepsi, and a lot of Macross 82-99) in the mix - it's great. Thanks for sharing!
1 and technically complextro is itself a direct evolution of electro house (which was an evolution of electro and house music, where electro itself was an evolution of house!), with complextro originally being defined as 'electro house with (dubstep) bass' (thus the 'complexity' of it in production and sound design).
Rawrberry or Dead Cat Bounce were excellent (short-lived) artists in those older days before it solidified into complextro, then melodic dubstep, and now color bass.
edit: can we throw the tags color bass and vaporwave on this post?
edit 2: added links, improved writing, added more history and details - because why not!
