Leonhart has been Steely Dan's musical director for several years, and has been a part of the family of bands associated with Daptone and similar labels (the Dap Kings, Antibalas, etc.). He also played trumpet with an impressive array of stars from James Brown to A Tribe Called Quest to Mark Ronson, and in fact was the trumpet player on Uptown Funk. His solo album Seahorse & The Storyteller from 2010 is a psychedelic funk masterpiece.
