I've been a pretty casual listener of a lot of synthwave artists over the past few years, and happened upon this site today which gives a neat rundown of some of the history of the genre, some of its prominent artists, and how it's diversified and branched out in the last decade.
Anyone else enjoy these styles of music? Who are your favorite artists?
I listen to quite a bit of synthwave and related genres, and this article seems to do a really good job of covering it. Most of the artists I would have thought to name are in here. For some...

For some favorites, without listing too many, I'd probably go with:
The Midnight
Dan Terminus
Scandroid
Dance with the Dead
And to try and add a few other recommendations that I don't see mentioned in the article at all:
Edit: I also recommended quite a few different synthwave-ish songs/artists in this thread from a couple months back, so there are a bunch of links to songs I like on YouTube there, if anyone wants more.
Ahh yeah! I had almost forgotten about them, I listened to Gunship (2015) when it first came out and enjoyed it for a bit (even if the vocals got a little bit samey-sounding after a few tracks)....

Looking at Google Play it seems there are a few single releases they have had recently that I can check out. Thanks for the reminder!
Yep! In the article it goes through the common names that the genre goes by and what the subgenres are, along with examples of each specific type in every section.

I'd also recommend the compilation albums that Kiez Beats puts out, they usually have a pretty solid mix of good artists. This is the most recent one, but there are about 5 more: https://kiezbeats.bandcamp.com/album/synthwave-vol-5-retro-dreams

Oh boy, if you've never heard of Gunship you should check them out. They have some of my all time favorite night-time driving music!

Isn't synthwave the music that goes along with retrofuturism, outrun and cyberpunk themes?
