A Song For Every Mood - Introduce Your Favorite Artist.

Tags: intro, ask, list

Saw a pic on Lil Peep's subreddit that listed out a song of his for every mood you could have.

I thought the list was a pretty good showcase of his work, and served as an awesome introduction to Peeper.

Copy my template or make your own and comment below with links of your favorite artist! Show off the range of their work and showcase some of your favorite tracks in the comments downstairs!

Here's my intro to Minor Threat for Every Mood. It seems like your favorite band deals with some different stuff emotionally than mine, so I made a new template to suit their emotional palette....

    A Song For Every Mood

Sort of off-topic but there used to be an incredible music streaming site called Musicovery that was absolutely amazing for this. Instead of generating playlists just based on genres, artists or songs like most services do these days, it created a network graph of related music you could navigate through based on the genres and eras of music you selected and what mood (dark - positive) and tempo (calm - energetic) the songs embodied that you were in the mood to listen to.

And rather than just popular/top40 stuff it had an insanely impressive catalogue full of obscure music from all over the world, in every genre and of every era, very similar to what is typically posted in /r/listentothis and is also often being posted on ~music. I miss it so much! It was the absolute best new music discovery system I have ever encountered. Apparently they are just a metadata and generic playlist generating API service these days. :(

I haven't dug into their API documentation at all... but just a quick glance shows they do mention "mood (valence and arousal coordinates)" in the available metadata, so maybe all that data the original streaming site utilized is still available in there. But without the same interface, network graph navigation structure and impressive catalogue I don't know if a site simply using the API would be remotely comparable to the Musicovery of old though.

Cool. Please keep me posted if you do take a crack at it, and if you manage to resurrect a similar system using their API I will love you forever! :P
