Hah... I loved the Ghost in the Shell Making Of Cyborg sample used on Track 6 and the track was pretty killer, too. Track 5 was especially good as well. Do you know what sub-genre of dub this is...

Do you know what sub-genre of dub this is @EightRoundsRapid? It had a really cool synth-heavy, psychedelic scifi soundtrack feel to it which I totally dig and want to hear more of.

I'm going take a guess, and call it Digi Dub, although I'm not too hot on genres and sub genres. Or classification in general. You might like this stuff. I'll see what else I can dig up and add it...

Yeah you did post that article before, I remember reading/listening to it a few months ago. Digi dub seems pretty broad and so not quite the same as this miniman album, and dubtronica seems way too electronic with not enough dub/raggae roots, so not quite right either... so perhaps it's a sub-sub genre I'm looking for. I will keep digging too and let you know if I find a name for it (if it even has one!). :P

edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psydub might be it... listening to some playlists/compilations it definitely seems close and has far more actual dub/raggae elements than dubtronica. Also pretty funny to see The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld mentioned in that wiki article... I haven't listened to them in years but still have a bunch of their albums tucked away in my storage room. Maybe that's why this music hit such a chord with me, since it reminded me of them. :)

Some of Eat Statics stuff might do the trick

          Freedom Ridge

          Dune Rider

Ed: somehow this lot slipped my memory

Children Of The Bong - Sirius Sounds

Standout track from the album, for me

          Underwater Dub

That Children of the Bong album definitely seems right up my alley and reminds me of Birdy Nam Nam (which is my favorite DJ crew). I also found a bunch of good Psydub playlists on YouTube, one...

That Children of the Bong album definitely seems right up my alley and reminds me of Birdy Nam Nam (which is my favorite DJ crew). I also found a bunch of good Psydub playlists on YouTube, one that even features a track from Miniman, so definitely think Psydub was what I was looking for.

Thanks for your recommendations! Now, I have lots of great stuff to listen to. :)

Never heard of either of them before today, but I'm 100% going to have to listen to that Ozric Tentacles album eventually too since the first song is fantastic! And while not remotely the same genre, the 2 min intro section of that first song really reminded me of Ewan Dobson - Time 2.

p.s. I love these little music sharing sessions with you. They always give me a huge backlog of amazing music to listen to. :P

A highly sophisticated foray into African-flavoured dubfunk, released in 2001, this was Warrick Sony's first solo album for a decade. His mesmeric 12-track soundscape (in Hindu philosophy, "akaśic " refers to the rose-tinted dream state that follows accidental death*) blends high-tech digital production with live bass, drums, keyboards and guitar -- all played by Sony -- and traditional instruments including tabla, udu pots and other African and Asian percussion. Several tracks feature samples from the music of Namibia's Himba people and rhythmic clapping by the Khoisan. It measures up to anything in its genre on the world stage. -- Drew Forrest
