I used to share a rehearsal room with the author. He really knows his stuff. Also check out his WFMU show: https://wfmu.org/playlists/JJ

He's also been quite active in the Dead scene of late which is how I ran into his work, e.g., he wrote liner notes for the recent Before the Dead (a compilation of Garcia's early bluegrass works)...

He's also been quite active in the Dead scene of late which is how I ran into his work, e.g., he wrote liner notes for the recent Before the Dead (a compilation of Garcia's early bluegrass works) and reviews for the re-release of Ned Lagin's Seastones etc. He also had a really excellent tribute / eulogy to John Perry Barlow (Weir's co-lyricist) when he passed a few months back. Not surprised at all to hear his show is good, checking it out now.
