What music blogs are still worth following?

I miss music blogs. I mostly used them for piracy in the past but plenty of them (pirate and non-pirate) have been great sources for curated lists of new good music. I'd like to add some more variety to my music discovery methods for this new year, so what blogs do you still follow / respect?

I never read music blogs anymore, but we maintained a blogroll wiki in /r/listentothis for a while. Last updated over a year ago though.

My guess is that the streaming services available have taken over the market when it comes to discovery. I personally think the "weekly recommendations" i get in Spotify are on point most of the time for example. I remember there where these "discovery" websites i used many years ago before Spotify basically took over my country. Those websites where doing the same thing as the streaming services do today basically, the related artists thing using data mined and some algorithms probably. I cannot for the name of me remember what they where called, but the two sites i used where shutdown over time.

I do use certain small subreddits today and its enough combined with spotify.

For me, the absolute best way of discovering new music is getting recommendations from my close friends, we all enjoy finding new tunes.

Sorry for not being able to provide any actual blogs, just my 2 cents on the subject.

Personally I find that Spotify and other algorithmic recs are pretty useless to me, even when they do their job correctly they're pretty much designed to keep you listening to the same kind of thing.

I totally agree with you on personal recs from friends being great though, I'm lucky enough that I have a ton of music nerd friends who are wonderful at doing that kind of thing. Between that and sites I'm always preaching about like RYM, I really do well with finding new music...I just love the charm of someone running their own blog and shouting out recs into the void.
