I forget about this artist because he so seldom releases music, but it's always worth the wait. I still revisit An Evening I Will Not Forget when I'm feeling a certain way—it's not really a song I'd have on a regular playlist, because to me it has to be experienced with concentration. This song is similar; not something I'd just throw on a traveling or working playlist, but definitely worth keeping for those times when I can really absorb it. It's pretty incredible how much feeling he pushes into his voice. He's like an old soul who's been through seriously hard times.
Yeah, I definitely have to be in the mood for Dermot Kennedy as well. But when I am in that mood (usually drunk+sad/depressed), I can listen to his songs over and over again, especially his live...

But when I am in that mood (usually drunk+sad/depressed), I can listen to his songs over and over again, especially his live stuff. Speaking of which, have you seen his Tiny Desk Concert? It's really good, he performs An Evening I Will Not Forget in it, and I have listened to it probably 100 times since it was released: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYGmDy7o2H0

I have seen it, probably because I'm subscribed to him on Youtube for his rare uploads. I actually prefer the "studio" version of An Evening, but the rest is really great. It's a shame he doesn't seem more well-known, because his is a rare talent of actually feeling lyrics and putting himself out on what feels like an awfully thin emotional limb.
It's remarkably rare for me to enjoy studio albums more than live stuff... and Dermot is no exception for me. But to each their own. :) Although this latest track has the feel of a live...

And yeah it's really a shame he isn't more widely known. His raw talent and his intensity when performing is really something else. I suspect it won't be long until he is huge though... it's only a matter of time, IMO.
I thought that four years ago with An Evening. Jesus, if that song doesn't get people excited about this guy, what the heck will? I'm the same way with studio vs. live, but for whatever reason the...

I'm the same way with studio vs. live, but for whatever reason the recording of that song is just so raw and his voice so...perfect for the material, it just rests as the standard in my mind. This isn't technically live, but just him and piano, and that stands right there with the studio version.
(Damn, after listening to it, the version I linked is probably my favorite now. The way his voice breaks at "what's important is this evening" is like whatever ASMR is. Tingles.)

His WGBH session is also amazing but has some of the same songs (An Evening... and Moments Passed):
