I hadn't really listened to much of this band, but one of my friends convinced me to go check out the show, and I'm super happy that I did so. Individually each member of the band is fantastic, and the trio is even more than the sum of their individual abilities, because of the chemistry that they have together. I could talk about the drummer, Jarrett Dougherty, who drove the whole band forward through tempo changes, time changes, exceptionally timed hits, etc. or the bass player, King Mike Abbate who was one of the best bass players I've ever seen, but the person who draws your eye for most of the show is the singer and guitar player Marissa Paternoster.
Before the show she was sitting at the table behind me. She was five foot nothing, with a soft voice, and an unassuming presence. When the doors to the room with the stage opened, she was working the merch booth, and she was smiling and polite, but once again, she was a bit quiet and rather unassuming. We listened through the first two bands (passable) and then Screaming Females took the stage, and she flipped a switch and exploded into a person who commanded attention. She's a great singer and a fantastic guitar player. The video I linked above is but a pale reminder of what you'll see when this little ball of rock is unleashed on stage.
I paid 18 bucks to see them, and I'd consider it amongst the best money I've ever spent. If you have a chance, and you like good, hard, emotional rock, then check them out!
