Josh Paxton is an acclaimed pianist from New Orleans who literally wrote the book on James Booker - he published the only available collection of Booker transcriptions. Last night he played a solo concert from his home on Facebook, and it was the best quarantine concert I have seen so far. He tore through Booker's repertoire, gave us a look "under the hood" to reveal some of the unique flourishes of Booker's style and influences (and how he influenced some of the other great pianists), and interpreted some unlikely songs in Booker's style. I was hanging on every note!
