The show is finished! I don't know if I didn't look into it enough or if their description wasn't clear, but it turns out it wasn't actually a live concert. It was a livestream with the band, and then during the livestream they aired a video of a concert they performed last week.
The stream interface basically looked like Bandcamp-does-Twitch. It had a video feed with a chat next to it, and a viewcount below it (it peaked just above 300 viewers). Below the stream was a digital "Merch Table" where you could buy vinyl and t-shirts and whatnot. Before the show everyone in the audience started saying hello in the chat and named where they were located. It was genuinely heartwarming to see so many different locations represented. The guitarist was on the chat saying hi and answering questions, and then the band then came on in a live feed and answered some questions from the chat for a bit.
They then switched over to the recording of the concert. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't live, but it was probably actually a better experience, as they had time to have the recording professionally edited and mixed, so it featured multiple camera angles and cuts, along with great sound. I imagine it would have been a lot harder to get that kind of quality live. Also, because the show was pre-recorded, the band members were live in the chat while the show aired and were talking and answering questions, but I didn't keep chat open since I wanted to focus on the show so I can't really say how that went.
It was genuinely weird to see a normal crowd in the audience, with no masks or social distancing. It speaks to how well New Zealand has handled COVID that such a thing could happen there, but it was kind of bittersweet to see as an American who's been in isolation for months with no-end in sight. On the other hand, I very much enjoyed that my husband and I were able to sing along without having to be self-conscious about it, so that was a nice perk.
The show itself was great. Liz sounded absolutely fantastic live, and the band nailed the vocal harmonies they are known for. Their simple, infectious energy is perfect for the stage, and they ran through almost every song I wanted to hear from them. Given that the concert has already been filmed and edited I wouldn't be surprised if they released it for outright purchase at some point in the future, or if they released a live album based on this concert (plenty of people in the chat were asking for it).
At the end the band came back on very briefly for a quick goodbye. They noted that the Bandcamp stream is re-streamable for 24 hours, and that everyone who had watched it would be receiving an e-mail with a link to a private YouTube video of the show that will stay up for 72 hours.
All told, it was easily worth the $14 USD it cost me to "attend".
I know we've got a few fans of The Beths around here. They're livestreaming a concert in two weeks! I'd be pretty hyped for this even under normal circumstances, but having been on COVID lockdown...

I'd be pretty hyped for this even under normal circumstances, but having been on COVID lockdown for what feels like forever now, the idea of attending a digital concert from the safety of my own home sounds absolutely splendid.
One last bump in case there's anyone who missed this thread earlier: the concert starts in just under 2 hours!
