It's not an article, but I wanted to remind everyone to get out and vote, regardless of who you support. I did early voting today, which is available in many states. It only takes 5 or 10 minutes, but it's incredibly important. If you're unsure of where to vote - you can check here.

‘Do better’: Newsom pauses $1B in homelessness spending

‘Do better’: Newsom pauses $1B in homelessness spending

California’s counties, 13 largest cities and groups of homeless service providers were in line to receive about $1 billion in state homelessness spending, but only if they submitted plans on how they would use the money to reduce the number of unsheltered homeless people.

On Thursday, Newsom declared those plans were “simply unacceptable” as they would collectively reduce the state’s homeless population by just 2% over the next four years. He said he would pause spending until after a meeting with local officials this month to “review the state’s collective approach to homelessness.”

Last I heard, Utah was having success with a housing first plan. If that's still the case, I would to see more of it

Agreed wholeheartedly, but one of the other major efforts that Newsom is heading is getting the cost of housing down. Renting reasonable housing (even a studio apartment) is inaccessible to anyone making less than 60-75k a year in some of the big cities in California. The issue of people being entirely unhoused is just one nodule on the malignant growth that is California's housing market.
