Offbeat Fridays – The thread where offbeat headlines become front page news

Tildes is a very serious site, where we discuss very serious matters like double lives, bird flu.h5n1 and cannabis. Tags culled from the highest voted topics from the last seven days, if anyone was studious.

But one of my favourite tags happens to be offbeat! Taking its original inspiration from Sir Nils Olav III, this thread is looking for any far-fetched offbeat stories lurking in the newspapers. It may not deserve its own post, but it deserves a wider audience!

‘We can live again’: Belgian nursing home residents hit the nightclubs

A Belgian initiative with the motto “happiness overcomes old age” has found a novel way to counter feelings of loneliness among nursing home residents: unleashing them on to the dancefloor of Brussels’ largest nightclub.

As part of a series of unconventional activities designed to keep retired people active, a nonprofit association, Papy Booom, recently arranged for 11 pensioners to visit Lift Brussels, a 1,360 sq metre (14,500 sq ft) venue specialising in R&B, reggaeton and Latin dance.

Probably ultimately saved this guy’s hand. Accident waiting to happen.

"I've never met an alligator that will not bite you," Henney told CBS Evening News in 2022. "You fool around the head like this (Joe puts his hand in Wally's mouth), their instinct is to grab you [with their teeth] - but he does not do it.

"You can reach in and rub his tongue, he refuses to close his mouth, but we don't know why," added Henney.

Therapy dogs and emotional support dogs are very different. An ESA shouldn't be bopping around with the person to hospitals. A therapy dog has training requirements and insurance. I believe this...

I believe this alligator was chill and I'm sorry for him losing it. But any facility letting him visit was out of line. As was he trying to take him to a baseball game.
