But one of my favourite tags happens to be offbeat! Taking its original inspiration from Sir Nils Olav III, this thread is looking for any far-fetched offbeat stories lurking in the newspapers. It may not deserve its own post, but it deserves a wider audience!

    A small French town has won instant internet fame because its mayor – running for re-election in Sunday's municipal elections – goes by the name of Hittler.

    Not just that. One of his two opponents is called Zielinski.

      Very odd. Seems that bureaucracy was the main factor behind this decision however maintaining the Hitler surname seems to be more of a private decision. Visited Germany years back and I recall...

      Very odd. Seems that bureaucracy was the main factor behind this decision however maintaining the Hitler surname seems to be more of a private decision. Visited Germany years back and I recall meeting an older German generation gentleman whose name was Adolf. In his case he would disguise it by using the name of Adi, though I found it odd, I understood. Very cool and incredibly genuine person I met back years ago.
