Said better by others whom I have read on the subject. Some Americans seem to think they have the higher moral ground, a higher esteem of self decency and have no quarrels breaching common law to get it done. It's frustrating to no end. Trump is just the cancer that has taken root from years of this attitude. Some even trace this back to the 1860's reconstruction period of the civil war.

The optics alone deserve scrutiny: the plan surfaced right as Europe heads into its traditional August shutdown, when federations, media newsrooms, and the political apparatus that would normally scrutinize this kind of deal are running on skeleton staff and reduced attention. Then, on top of a compressed review window and real financial stakes for member federations, I’m supposed to accept that this is coincidence rather than design. That's a familiar sequence, announce when scrutiny is structurally weakest, attach a hard deadline before organized resistance can form, and let the "outrage" cycle burn itself out before anyone's had time to actually read the fine print. It's not a football-specific tactic; it's the same playbook used to push through unpopular restructurings elsewhere, where the people negotiating the terms stand to gain and the people living with the consequences get a signature deadline instead of a seat at the table. Which is exactly why I'm skeptical of UEFA's threats and or conviction. To me this theater on its own, a boycott threat costs nothing to issue in July. Whether it costs anything in September, when the deadline actually bites, is the only test that matters. So I repeat my hope: I hope Europeans football fans, since American (America continent) fans are not able to block this measure so this squarely is a European issue to fix.
