Offbeat Fridays – The thread where offbeat headlines become front page news
Tildes is a very serious site, where we discuss very serious matters like forums, communities.online and easylist. Tags culled from the highest voted topics from the last seven days, if anyone was nosey.
But one of my favourite tags happens to be offbeat! Taking its original inspiration from Sir Nils Olav III, this thread is looking for any far-fetched offbeat stories lurking in the newspapers. It may not deserve its own post, but it deserves a wider audience!

Judge halts Oregon man’s telemarketing lawsuits, cites fraud concerns
Step 1: Buy easily entered/throwaway phone number such as 541-999-9999 that people might use when just trying to casually check things like insurance prices without giving marketers your real info.
Step 2: Enter easily entered/throwaway phone number into national Do Not Call Registry.
Step 3: Wait for people to enter your phone number (or enter it yourself).
Step 4: Be a nazi?
Step 5: Sue any marketers that call/text you.
Step 6: Get a judge that notices that you're a "professional litigant", nazi, and likely fraudster with one hell of an agreement with a law firm to automatically pursue lawsuits in your name while only getting a 5-10% cut and puts a halt to it all because you're all of the above and wanted to be the representative in a class action lawsuit and the judge thinks that maybe a nazi wouldn't be the best choice there.
