Most thoughtful and informed individuals are attempting to stem the tide with individual acts. Unless and until large polluting, energy consuming industries make significant changes, I fear the impacts will only accelerate.
I don't think enough attention is highlighted about those industries, the worst offenders and pressure brought to bear. Indeed as 'self-regulation' is buoyed by governments and govt. agencies tasked with oversight dismantled, the consequences will worsen quickly and profoundly.
For example: Koch Industries in the USA not only are major polluters but use their wealth to pass legislation favorable to their industries through ALEC as well as spread through media climate change denial.
Koch Industries was the 2011 inductee for Corporate Accountability International's Corporate Hall of Shame (link is external) for "spending over $50 million to fund climate change denial and influencing the Supreme Court's decision to allow unlimited corporate dollars to flow into federal elections." Koch Industries is the sixth member of the Hall of Shame, after Monsanto, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Blackwater and Halliburton.
