This becomes it's own quagmire with more destabilization of the US. More radicalization on both sides. A drifting apart of the Nation, with us unable to find a common vocabulary to even have an honest discourse.

I see no way forward that brings us together, just more tearing ourselves apart from the inside.

I wish I could see a solution that brings catharsis for the Nation, but not matter the outcome, I see only deepening of the divide already apparent in our Nation

Frankly, at this point, I wouldn't mind at all if America just split into 4 or 5 countries. Divide the whole thing up by census region. We're too big. Too unstable with this president and we're not likely to recover anytime soon from the things he's done so far.

Fuck it. Let's start from scratch.

On a more serious note, I'm not sure that there is a way to bridge the divide. I think that the people who support Trump are likely to do so long after Trump is gone. For some people, this is a man they're proud of and they've convinced their children that the president is someone who is always to be respected and Trump is particularly special

Split it up based on what? The political divide is pretty strictly urban/rural. Atlanta and Denver have a lot more in common with each other than they do with the rural areas of their own states.

Wasn't the "need to bring the nation together" one of the reasons Ford gave for pardoning Nixon? What do you bet they try to pull that same shit again. "Drop the investigation to stop the destabilization", "ignore the crimes of those people, focus on the future"... absolutely anything to prevent anyone in power from ever actually being held accountable.
