It's hard to say whether this result is legitimate or not, but there was almost no way the crocodile was going to lose an election. Not after propping up the Mugabe dictatorship for all those years.
Without try to sound to trite, it's very much a case of "meet the new boss, same as the old boss".
Funny enough, that's the exact same line that I used to explain this to a colleague yesterday.
The Crocodile was an instrumental part of the Mugabe dictatorship and he was heavily in the worst bits. The massacres and detentions and torture. He was not going to be a liberator for the Zimbabweans, just a different oppressor.
The only positive is that Mugabe's reign ended without the country completely collapsing and even though there now seems to be another despot in place, it indicates the possibility of a better future.
Is it too soon to say that we were right about this?
I don't think so.
The writing was on the wall, all it needed was for enough people to read it.
