Stalker comes close to what I'm looking for. I've already played CoP, don't know if I want to play the prequels.

I'm certain it made the news in most of the world and it is possible maybe even likely that the average Chinese who knew about it was concerned.
The issue with Notre Dame is completely different. A lot of people outside Europe and North America don't know and to some extent I guess they don't care.

More importantly, isn't it weird that Victor Hugo was nowhere to be seen at around the same time the church was burning up...
Edit. I appear to have written off the Notre Dame too soon.

Considering that YouTube has gone down this path to maximize the advertising revenue, any platform that comes up because it was bankrolled by a Jeff Bezos scale of investor will likely also take similar actions.
The only change we can hope for is that this competitor will have open communication, because at the moment, YouTube's communication is incredibly awful.

-
They remain the biggest collection of videos online. Most creators, musicians, entertainers are on it.
-
They have fantastic servers. Videos load quickly and the platform works pretty well. I don't know of any other website that works as well.
-
They have Google backing them.
It will take a massive effort to overthrow YouTube and most of it will hinge on no.1, getting creators and entertainers to abandon the site.

Savings are enough to pay for the full course up front, so at least I know that once I start I'm not likely to drop out for financial reasons. It will place me in a situation where I can't afford to lose my job, but I'm super happy to avoid any loans.

This sounds like the sort of ideology that is used to justify ethnic cleansings and other sorts of horrible stuff.
I'm sure if you ask the people in Myanmar, they will also say that somebody somewhere gave them the land and the Rohingya are invaders.
Ask the black South Africans, and they will say the same about the Afrikaans.
I think these ideological arguments are invalid and should not be accepted in this day and age.
Ps. This is not in response to your own beliefs or anything, it's in response to the belief that God gave the Jews the land of Israel.
The political claim, that the land was given to them as penance for their suffering in the Holocaust, I think is just insulting. What right did the colonial powers have to take land that was inhabited by a certain people and say that it belonged to another group of people... IMO, this argument has no leg to stand on.
And with all this in mind, what solution is there if the Israeli leader openly declares that Arabs cannot be equal citizens, while at the same time both sides continue to frustrate any attempt to achieve the two-state solution?
For me it seems that both sides really are at fault here. Whether they Are equally at fault, I am not informed or impartial enough to determine.

Also might enjoy Massive Attack and Portishead. I would recommend Mezzanine for Massive Attack for a beginner and Dummy by Portishead.

Comment on Zanu-PF wins majority in Zimbabwe parliament elections, officials say in ~news
DrewDru Is it too soon to say that we were right about this?Is it too soon to say that we were right about this?
Spoilers ahead, obviously.
I've been watching season 8 this past week after reading all of the criticism online and I've definitely been affected by this.
On one hand, I'm certain that its worse than all the other seasons. Season 7 itself was the worst one for me up to that point, while seasons 5 and 6 i thoroughly enjoyed. One big problem I've had with seasons 7 & 8 is characters making bad decisions that don't match their characterization up to that point. A perfect example of this is Tyrion trusting Cersei at the end of season 7, even though he knew very well the sort of sociopathic manipulative cunt that she is/was. Then this bad decision is compounded by all of Dany's other advisors going along with the decision to defeat the Night King first then deal with the Iron Throne next, when the reverse is a much better strategic decision for a bunch of reasons.
Watching season 8 now, I can't decide if I hate it because I've already read most of the criticism and spoilers. I'm definitely affected by the fact that I know how it ends and I'm fully aware of how unsatisfying the ending is. But I still can't tell if I would have found it to be as bad if I had not read about it before.
On the other other end of this, Avengers Endgame seems to have delivered the sort of satisfying and conclusive ending that GoT fans would have hoped for on their show. I'm sure not all of the fans are happy with how it ended, but it doesn't seem to have suffered the same fate as GoT in the form of a fan revolt. I would say the main reason for this is that the quality, the value, and the direction remained the same from the moment that they decided they would create the interwoven universe up until the moment they finished the story.
GoT on the other hand made 2 incredible and unforgivable mistakes by my view.
It seems after season 6, the show stopped being an intense political drama focusing on intrigue, betrayal and turned into a bare bones epic based in the middle ages.
I still can't believe that the threat of the winter, a threat that writers started building up from Season 1 episode 1, was discarded so casually in one single episode.
