Supernatural: The Four Horsemen introductions

Supernatural is one of those TV shows that had some fantastic early seasons. I really miss them.
As a show I feel it kinda turned way too much into fan service in its later seasons. It stayed decent (good, even), but lost a lot of its quality.
Every season there's a bigger, badder fish and things get more and more absurd. One of the things that kind of annoyed me the most about it is that characters dying has zero impact, as they come back into the show whenever convenient using whatever silly way the writers deem worthy. (That series is the polar opposite of Game of Thrones in that regard…)

Season 5 introduced the Four Horsemen. I remember Death's intro as being possibly the most memorable moment of the entire show. Re-watching them now, the introductions of all four were seriously chilling. Thought I'd share them here.

I'll recommend Supernatural if you like a good mix of horror-comedy without too much comedy. You may like it if you liked: Psych, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel.

I think they didn't do enough with the horsemen. War, for instance, was turned into a basic freak of the week and discarded within one episode.

Sadly, despite liking the show initially after Season 6 it started to seriously suffer and got a lot worse, in my opinion. Interest dwindled rapidly. A character dying has become absolutely meaningless, they can just be brought back with the snap of a finger and the enemies have pretty much maxed out their threat level after Lucifer's End-of-the-World scenario.

Considering how many characters in GoT have come back to life after being killed (with even more doing so in ASOIAF)... I don't think polar opposite is how I would describe that. ;) Is the plot...

Is the plot armor and resurrection egregiously bad on Supernatural or is it just occasional? It's been on my watchlist forever but I might actually remove it if it's really bad in that department, since it really bothers me when death doesn't have lasting consequences in shows since that destroys all the tension for me when characters are in dangerous situations.

I wasn't trying to say that characters don't come back to life in GoT, but rather that GoT makes death both frequent and very meaningful. Whereas Supernatural makes it frequent and meaningless....

The plot armor is not bad at first, but it gets bad. The main reason for that being that a key point of the series is to put the two main characters (the brothers) in life-threatening situations that sometimes end up in death at the end of the season. And given that they are the main characters, one (or both) of them dying isn't exactly useful to the series, so they come back. They do this to a few other characters as well. It's kind of a meme.

I'll say this, I really, really liked the first couple of seasons. If Supernatural is something you've been meaning to watch, go for it. I'll compare its quality curve with the Simpsons: Good at first, keeps getting better until it's really good, then slides off into predictable fan-servicey sameness. Still ok, but not great.

Alright, thanks... I will probably still check it out then and at least watch the first few seasons. If it gets too bad I can always stop watching. ;)

I mean it's still a good series in its first seasons, regardless of the fandom. In fact the fandom is partly responsible for how weird it's gotten in the later ones. This is a tv-related group,...

This is a tv-related group, not sure what you expected. :)
