I have huge respect to anyone who went out to counter-protest, and I hope people around the world continue to do so until white nationalists are once again afraid to voice their views in public, and afraid to commit acts of violence and terror.

Being disowned by your family turns out to be an effective deterrent. Make Racists Ashamed Again.

In what way is it effective? That article doesn't say anything about whether the disowned man has changed his views.

You shouldn't assume that, just because white nationalists aren't turning up to public protests, that means they're on the decline. Why protest in public in daylight when online proselytising is much easier and less problematic?

That's fair, it's not a safe assumption to make that they are on the decline as a whole. But removing their public presence is still a step in the right direction. It send a clear message to wider society that far-right views are not okay, and will not be tolerated in the open. Obviously plenty of extremists are happy to stay online and recruit via those channels, but the ability to normalise white nationalism and affect actual change is greatly reduced without access to public spaces (which is why it's also important that online public spaces similarly take a zero tolerance stance)

They've always done that though. Stormfront and similar websites have existed for years - these efforts are basically to make sure white nationalists stay in their place, which is basically where they've been until they were emboldened by Trump to steal the platforms of more reasonable, saner people.

Counter-demonstrators aren't trying to eradicate white nationalism, they already know most of those people are beyond hope, but are trying to take back their platforms so that society can continue without racist, extremist interruptions, as it had been before the election.

Other evidence, such as Stormfront and the other websites you refer to, show that white nationalism is obviously not on the decline.

There is no "final solution" to white supremacists. The best we can hope to do is to keep them contained.
