These days in Turkey reason is homeless. The brain drain is the result of that. I'm a drop waiting for my turn to leak away. For an honest scholar, there is no room here anymore. Universities have been strangled. Those who barely survived are being continually targeted. Prices climb, wages barely move. Meritocracy has been completely left behind, it's all nepotism now in order to hold on to as many institutions as possible. It was, and has always been a conquest, the aim was to fill the institutions and the industries with the new conservative bourgoisie and oust the old, secular one. For the educated academics and professionals, there are two options: succumb into this, or leave ASAP.
Our lifestyles are affected by this "conquest" too. There are crazy taxes for alcohol. Constant censorship of all artistic activites. Constant encouragement of those who are adverse to us and to anything realated to modernity or the West. Promotion of a conservative, patriarchal, opressive, violent society. All in order to maintain enough fools so that they can hold on to power.
