I'm so happy to live in a country where I have to be willing to give up my inalienable right to live if I want to fight back against a perceived injustice being enacted upon me.

I dont fault the officer. If the story is true then he was disarmed and he was no doubt instructed to act lethally if ever he were, in defense of himself. Ultimately these were two human beings, one behaving as they were told and one a victim of cognitive imbalances outside of her control that went otherwise unaided by an uncaring bureaucratic society.

We cannot call ourselves a civilized society if we allow a person to die over 3 misdemeanor warrants while already under court order for a mental health assessment. We have not built this country to be accepting or understanding of the mentally ill and until such time as those needed changes are made, people are going to keep dying.

Goodness help me if I ever meet an officer in the throes of anxiety or a depressive episode.

The fact that it happened at all could have possibly been avoided with better communication between departments (the court system and the police department) makes it that much more tragic.
