Ultimately, the GOP know this law is unconstitutional, but they believe that now that Trump has stacked the Supreme Court...they think that the time is ripe to overturn Roe v Wade and make abortion illegal nationwide.
I really don't think the goal is overturning Roe v Wade. Even for a conservative court that would be too much. I think the goal is to have the Supreme Court say this is in-line with Roe v Wade...
