".... are we the new digital battleground equivalent to Vietnam in a proxy war between China and Russia?"

Hopefully someone with more in depth knowledge of geopolitical history can help me understand if that's an apt comparison.

I don't claim to have an in depth knowledge of geopolitical history, but I don't think this is really comparable. For one thing, the US' elections are far harder to interfere and manage for either of these countries, for a variety of reasons; namely, that they don't hold the kind of influence over the US that the US and the USSR did in their battlegrounds, and that the US' election process is far more robust than any featured in these countries. For all its warts, it's very decentralized and mostly counted and managed at the state level, which makes it difficult to systematically influence the way a centralized election process is. I'm personally far more worried about the funding issues with the USPS and voters not turning out than I am about foreign interference, truth be told.

I take it more as a reflection of China and Russia's preferences, in what they believe will make it easier for them. China would rather have a predictable opponent they can rely on to follow through on its word, while Russia wants the USA to be as weak as possible, regardless of what it means for Russia and the US's relationship (though I'm sure Trump's fealty to Putin doesn't hurt either). Every other country also has preferences - most of the rest of the world is firmly in favor of Biden, not only because he's predictable, but because he has way more sympathy towards other countries and is a lot more competent at actually managing geopolitics.

No, there is nothing ideological in either parties actions. You are just witnessing a flaw of democracy on american soil for the first time since the '90s and the fall of the soviets. Democracies...

No, there is nothing ideological in either parties actions. You are just witnessing a flaw of democracy on american soil for the first time since the '90s and the fall of the soviets. Democracies are just incredibly open to foreign interference. I'm sure Sparta and Thebes both tried getting their preferred candidates to win in Athens.

While China probably cares about who wins, i don't think Russia does, casting doubt on the result profits them nearly as much as having backed a winner. I still think Russia would prefer Biden to win because then Russia gets to be the wild card which is their preferred position.
