Kind of odd phrasing in the title since the US Capitol Police are a part of the Federal government. That aside, not having the national guard deployed immediately seems like the right call to me....

Kind of odd phrasing in the title since the US Capitol Police are a part of the Federal government. That aside, not having the national guard deployed immediately seems like the right call to me. I don't want to see anyone in a military uniform deployed in a law enforcement capacity on domestic soil unless provably and immediately necessary. Completely refusing help and not having any kind of plan in place for what to do if things escalated makes absolutely no sense to me. I have a lot more respect for Federal law enforcement than I do for their state and local counterparts, but that respect is eroding pretty rapidly.

My understanding is that the Capitol Police are the only federal law enforcement agency under the jurisdiction of the Congress rather than the executive branch.
