You know how someone will say something shitty and then say “no offense” after it as if it absolves them? These pardons are like that, only the misdeeds in question are way more substantial and the “no offense” absolution is legally binding. Truly maddening.

I am so sick of watching that man escape accountability for every single awful thing he does.

The consequence of laws for me but not for thee, or of laws that are on the books yet ignored except in special cases, is the inevitable destruction of respect for law and order. Before long, the law is just history, not reality.

A friend of mine did make a rather keen observation about this. Trump's head is chock full of privileged information. He hasn't got a lick of self-control or self-censorship, either. That makes him into quite the security risk once he's out of office. Give him a half-second to get there and he'll be in Russia just to escape his judgement. He knows he can't come back to NY.

Makes me wonder what'll happen when he's out, and how many people and law enforcement and espionage agencies will be gunning for him. He may just disappear from the face of the earth without a trace.
