I love that your article describes Smith, the original discoverer of this series of tiles, as "a hobbyist with no training who told AFP that he wasn't great at math at school". That wasn't stated in the earlier articles, which just lumped him in with the other mathematicians who co-wrote the paper about his tiles.
I thought there would be some nerds here who might appreciate this story even more than I did. Please feel free to share your thoughts and insights.

As a first stumbler on this discovery, the earlier article is much better at explaining the geometrical problem than OP's. Really interesting.
