I wouldn't want to be in the position of the decision makers who had to choose between these two evils. But honestly, there is a certain value in giving justice to an innocent person, just as there is in delivering punishment to the guilty. And who can say what's right here? I certainly don't know.
I think though, from looking at the images of protests, that it was a pretty easy decision from the perspective of a Belgian politician.
