    Conservatives appear particularly likely to feel cold towards liberals, even conservatives who hold very liberal issue positions.

    One solution might be to appeal to a larger unifying category: Americans.

    I wonder however, if America's requirement to register a party preference when registering to vote causes unnecessary self identification with a particular political party.
