I see it as a positive indication of how far we've come. Not too many decades back this behavior and many others would have been seen by 'mainstream society' as to be expected and within a person's right of expression. At last, we're seeing the tide change toward equality as being expected by a growing majority of people. More to come, I'm sure.

    lol, unbelievable.

    lol, unbelievable.

In a statement released Wednesday, minutes after Herring held an emergency meeting with the state legislative black caucus, the attorney general took responsibility for appearing in the photo.
“In 1980, when I was a 19-year old undergraduate in college, some friends suggested we attend a party dressed like rappers we listened to at the time, like Kurtis Blow, and perform a song,” Herring said in a statement.
“This was a onetime occurrence and I accept full responsibility for my conduct,” Herring said."

Wasn't there an article recently which suggested there is a concentrated effort to discredit and minimise the influence of democrats in swing states?

This isn't like the amateur hit jobs on Mueller and Avenatti.

in the interest of not flooding us with even more of these articles, we have another racism scandal today as the senate majority leader is now in the line of fire for being the editor of a yearbook with a shit ton of racism in it

On one page of the yearbook, a student poses in blackface, surrounded by others in costumes at a party. Another page features a photo of two men in blackface holding a football.
The N-word is used at least once. A student listed as being from Bangkok, Thailand, is referred to as a “Chink” and “Jap.”
A blurb under one man’s picture says: "He was known as the 'Barracks Jew’ having his fingers in the finances of the entire Corps."

    so congrats to him.

Well, no surprise there. I will be surprised if he actually resigns, given he's a republican. Kinda surprising the two Democrats here haven't already, but it is the south.

Considering the racism scandal with Gov Northam and sexual allegation on Lt Gov Fairfax, i think Herring will probably be the one left standing when all is said and done.

honesty? i am doubtful that any of them will resign at this point. fairfax has basically no pressure to resign because his accuser isn't really moving forward with anything (she just put out a statement and not much else), and northam seems content to try and somehow right the ship despite having literally no democratic support, which suggests he'd be forced out if anything.

    the never-ending cycle continues!

fairfax is likely to be forced out now that he has a second accuser. he was looking pretty good with just the one because that boiled down to he said she said and the victim wasn't willing to pursue it further, but he's not likely to survive this one.

also, northam looks likely to survive, although he is doing this in the wackiest possible way
