    While the reasoning in the article is good, as far as I can tell it doesn't mention the fact that pretty much anything going to space is using incredibly old hardware/software. This is for a few...

    While the reasoning in the article is good, as far as I can tell it doesn't mention the fact that pretty much anything going to space is using incredibly old hardware/software. This is for a few reasons.

    1. Pretty much 99% of these decisions are made way back at the start of the project which is pretty much always several years in the past.
    2. NASA prefers to use things that have been out and about in the real world for years in order to see how reliable it is as well as hope that all the software bugs have been ironed out.
