It's been like this in the AL forever, especially with my Detroit Tigers. Even when relying totally on offense to win games clearly isn't working season after season they still beat the dead horse. It worked the season they went to the world series and they've been trying to recreate it ever since.
I want to see a lot more small ball, balls hit certain ways for strategy and not power, base stealing, etc etc etc. I just like a more complex game I think. Home runs are cool, but you shouldn't bank your season on them regardless of analytics.

I think it's cyclical and the elements we enjoy will come back around eventually, because it wins ballgames. The 2015 Royals are the proof. They won it all because they were built around making contact, putting the ball in play to all fields, aggressive baserunning, and solid defense. Only one hitter on that team had more than 100 strikeouts! They didn't have a single guy with 30 home runs, no pitchers with Cy Young type numbers (except Wade Davis, I suppose) and yet they were one of the most exciting and memorable teams of recent years. It's only a matter of time before someone puts together another roster like that which can exploit the teams built around the "three true outcomes." Small ball still works and I believe it will make a comeback someday.
This is exactly what I was thinking as I read the article. Soon (ish) somebody is going to come along and make a big splash by doing risky/exciting things. They'll be praised as a genius or...
