George Raynor led Sweden to silver and bronze medals at the FIFA World Cup (1950 and 1958 respectively) as well as gold and bronze at the Olympics (1948 and 1952 respectively).

His title, however, was not manager but coach. The first manager ("förbundskapten"), Lennart Nyman, was hired in 1962.

The national team had a selection committee that picked the squad for coaches like Raynor. The first manager job was from 1962.
