Oft-injured, two-time Cy Young winner Jacob deGrom to have his second Tommy John surgery. He's electric when healthy but hasn't had a good run of late. This was his first year with the Texas Rangers after signing a five year, $185 million contract. He only made six starts this season before being shut down.

He seems to not have as big of an impact as one would expect though as the Rangers seem to be doing fine without him lately and will, hopefully, continue to do so as long as their other starting pitchers stay healthy. Eovaldi looks to be having no issue holding things down lately.

I've been shocked by how good the Rangers starting rotation has looked this year missing deGrom. Eovaldi has been incredible so far.

I hate this. We're being deprived of watching an all-time great who took off late (in baseball terms) and was likely going to be chasing a very interesting hall of fame case. It's really hard to see that happening now and it makes you wonder what could have been if he had just been able to stay healthy.

I mean this dude had a 1.08 ERA in 15 games in 2021, if he had kept that pace for another 15 starts it would have had a very real argument to be the single best pitching season of all time.
