Any other gamblers here?

I started gambling on sports at the start of the 2016 NFL season. Using a popular offshore site that takes bitcoin for wagers, I managed to get around the stringent US laws against sports betting. I got very lucky early on, and I thought I had a knack for picking teams. Obviously, that luck doesn't last forever (a tale as old as time) and now I have to watch games for "fun" instead of relying on the outcome to make money.

I still throw money on playoff games from time to time. That said, there really isn't a thrill like watching a fuzzy stream of two high school football teams halfway across the country, hoping for a safety to cover the spread. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Or does anyone have an edge on the BIG3 summer league they wanna share?

I really enjoy the thrill of sports betting, even in the small amounts, as it makes for a more entertaining watching experience. Because of harsh internet and location restrictions, I rarely get to partake beyond friendly $5 or beer bets with friends and at bars. I spent a "first weekend" of the NCAA Tourney in Vegas once, and I think it ranks very high on my non-family list of experiences, thoroughly enjoyable.

The Supreme Court ruling may really open things up though, and I'm excited for the possible return of something I always enjoyed.

I absolutely agree that even a bet of $5 or a round of drinks can make any event interesting. And for what it's worth, I made more money buying and holding bitcoin to use on gambling sites than I ever made with the wagers themselves. A true testament to my gambling prowess lol.

I like sports betting and DFS. I'm mostly only good at NFL though. College spreads are too big to predict

I looked at UFC gambling for a moment and did the fantasy league based on a bit of data analysis and prediction. Average pretty well for 3 events, landing in the top 1K globally but I never pulled the trigger on actually laying down money. Just too many upsets and too few fights per year for me to be comfortable making picks.

I've worked on something similar - built a system to predict the distribution over outcomes for any given pair of fighters. It works ok, but is far less effective than a similar system I built to look at football matches. There are just not enough fights for my model :(.

Yeah, the dataset is so small. If a fighter has one fight a year, there just isn't enough to chew on.

Out of Curiosity, How do you build a system like that?
