    it seems basically inevitable that the current order of american football is not going to be able to withstand the reality that it basically obliterates your brain. there are other sports where this is a problem like hockey, but for a lot of those you can at ,east take steps to minimize head trauma without really impacting how the game goes (although that unto itself probably isn't enough). can't really do that in football, because the biggest damaging factor are the concussive impacts that happen every time the ball is snapped. i don't know how you minimize that short of basically reinventing the game and making it like flag football, but something drastic is probably eventually going to have to happen here given how ubiquitous CTE and CTE-like symptoms seem to be among former NFL players. it certainly can't be written off at this point as an isolated thing or symptomatic of only a few specific player positions.
