Any current or retired Peace Corps Volunteers here?

I am planning on going into the peace corps after I finish up my degree. My first priority is an education position, but if I can't get that, I'm open to other options. I would love to hear about the experiences anyone had while in the program.

Returned Peace Corps Volunteer here, served in Senegal 2017-19 doing economic development work. The biggest takeaway for somebody considering it is to keep in mind that every Peace Corps experience is different, even within the same sector and the same country. While there are a ton of common tropes (typically around culture shock and the camaraderie of service), the different intersections of your individual site and each volunteer can create wildly different dynamics.

If you can, try to find a wide range of the blogs, Reddit threads, YouTube vids, and more that talk about service to get an idea of what it can be like so you can get a feel for the sheer variety of service experiences. Above all: be dynamic, be patient, and don't overpack.
