I've had a not so great week at work unfortunately. Performance evaluations happened and I got "Meets Some Expectations" which is below the status quo of "Meets All Expectations". I'm not too surprised by this but am a bit bummed out by it. My performance as an engineer suffered quite a bit for the first 3 of 6 months this performance evaluation is based on. My manager was out on paternity leave, I was reporting to my skip manager who had just joined a month prior, and my output of code was just low. I was able to recover it once my manager returned but the damage was done. Thankfully, I've gotten a lot of good feedback from my teammates and manager and I'm set to have an official mentor for the next 6 months so I'm hopeful for the near future.

However, this has had a sort of knock on effect that has affected my work this week. I've had two PRs that caused bugs once merged into prod that required quick fixes from me. Thankfully these didn't affect customers much but man, my morale has taken a hit.

Now, on a much more positive note.

I've been enjoying life recently. I've gotten adjusted to not having my brother around at home and I try to text him often to make sure he's doing alright. My niece, who's just over a year old now, is growing up fast and it's fun watching videos my cousin sends of her roaming around and causing mayhem around the house. My friends and I have been meeting up more often to play poker and just have a good time together. My car is also back from the mechanic so I've been zooming around on twisty roads with minimal traffic. I do want to take it to an autocross event in the near future but I need to make the time for it.
