What did you do this weekend?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their weekend. Did you make any plans? Take a trip? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
I biked from Richmond to Williamsburg on Saturday and back to Richmond on Sunday. Ended up being about 60 miles each way. The Virginia Capital Trail was lovely! Paved and very well maintained with minimal vehicle traffic to deal with. I went with a friend I didn’t know very well, so it was nice to spend some quality time with her and get to know her one-on-one. I’m absolutely exhausted and my butt and palms are a bit sore, but otherwise I feel good.
That sounds lovely. I used to bike around Greenville in Noth Carolina. It was just rolling enough to be interesting. The quiet wooded country roads were like being in heaven. While sitting on a fence post lol.
I went on a date on Saturday. We visited the city's art museum, which we both adore, and got lunch at a place nearby. We shared a pizza and other small dishes, and I had a nice glass of wine (a pinot grigio) on the waiter's recommendation. I would've liked to stay longer, but I had to catch a train.
She's a lovely girl, and very beautiful. I'm happy to have met her. We'll see each other again this weekend for dinner, or perhaps during the week to dance, if we can swing it (as it were).
I had a very busy Labor Day weekend, but a very relaxing Labor Day itself.
Saturday I woke up at 7:30 to prepare for going to 6 house showings. Out of the 6, only 2 were really anything worth considering and they both have some rather disappointing features that I'm not sure I want to pull the trigger after seeing em. One specifically was a really large house for the price, but was located in a rather bad school district, and had some issues with the stucco which would have cost ~30K to fix within the next 3 to 5 years.
After that I went to an "artsy" fair back in my home state and met up with some friends back from college. Was a great time, I had a blast seeing all the cool booths set up. Played some card games with them after the fair, and then met up with a tangential group from college in the city. Got lit, slept on the couch, and then had to wake up early on Sunday to meet my landlord back at my place to sign an amendment for month to month rent until I buy a house. I relaxed fit a little bit, playing battlefield 4 until I had to go pick up my partner and their friends from a bachelorette weekend in Pensacola. Their return flight came into Newark NJ Airport an hour later then it was supposed to. It was already an hour and a half drive to get there, and I has to circle the airport loop for an hour before they were able to come out. Needless to say, by the time we got home, I was freaking exhausted.
Stayed in bed till 1:30 yesterday, got brunch at a nice place near us and then did absolutely nothing for the rest of the day to catch up on my rest!
Assembled most of an Ender 5 Plus to replace my dear departed Maker Select v2. I got what I thought was a great deal on it as an open box return to micro center, at around $400 vs $600 new, but whoever returned it was a sadist. Parts that were supposed to come pre-assembled were disassembled, and therefore lacking instructions, anywhere. I had to look at damn pictures of completed printers for reference, and probably took the top frame apart and put it back together at least half a dozen times before getting it right. As if that wasn't bad enough, parts that were supposed to come disassembled were left assembled, and often incorrectly, needing to be disassembled and reassembled for installation.
And when I finally got the whole frame together, I turn it on and nothing happens. Open the control box and every single connector has been unplugged. So then I have to look up wiring schematics to get it all back together again, and luckily it seems everything I've tested works but the z endstop, which needs its connector replaced- it was the only damaged one and the Dupont jumper splice I tried clearly didn't work. Only thing left after that is to somehow get the broken piece of filament out of the hotend and try to print something. Fingers crossed but I probably won't have time to do it until next weekend.
All in all, it would probably have been faster to replace the board in my maker select, which I also intend to do, though I find the process a little intimidating. I did also pick up an SKR 1.4 turbo for that purpose on the same trip, but the whole point was to be able to print stuff for a project that weekend dammit.
Went to a swap meet on Saturday and almost bought a beautifully patina'd 1965 Chevrolet pickup truck, elected not to since I have another car purchase on the horizon already.
