    I'm normally a fan of Ted Chiang's writing, but found this article disappointing, which is why I didn't post it earlier. His earlier New Yorker article was more helpful.

    It's like if cancer were cured and someone wrote about how it's problematic because big pharma will profit, it will put health care workers out of work, it will increase inequality, and it discriminates against minorities. Yes, that's all true, but.

    (That's an exaggeration for effect. I'm fascinated by AI, which is why I write about it, but I don't think it's nearly as big a deal as curing cancer would be.)

    Anti-capitalist ideology is deeply pessimistic. Complaints along these lines seem formulaic and based on unrealistic expectations. Is there a technology that would fix all our problems at once?
