    Summary :
    • Google has launched upgrades for its generative AI-powered search experience, Search Generative Experience (SGE).
    • This is an experiment called SGE which is now capable of providing answers to questions about products and places.
    • Although the technology has potential, it is not going to replace traditional search engines anytime soon as it has limitations in its current form.

Here's the thing: This is another tool for Google to keep people on Google instead of clicking through to another page. They already do a LOT of this, and even without AI you can see how much what they've already implemented impacts traffic to sites that are even just in second or third place for organic results. At a certain point, the pool of clicks leaving Google is going to shrink enough that the return on investing in content is just going to be too small for many sites to justify.

I know AI is a long way from being able to do the work I do as well as I do it, but it doesn't have to in order to take my job. If it can produce sufficiently passable content and provide more tools for Google to capture clicks, it can still cost me work and pay.
