When Facebook first started picking up steam people really believed that they were making all that money off of ads alone.

I admit, this is what I thought. That is still how I think many websites make the majority of their money. I just don't know enough to get it.

Facebook is the worst possible steward of data. And they collect it from non users, meaning that even if I never created an account, I still could get my info leaked.

I have a facebook account and use that on my older laptop. The few times I have used it on my phone I went through Safari. I have Messenger app downloaded on my phone. I use Gmail as my main email. I do not sign up for or into services via a facebook account.

    What should concern me?
Did they break laws or are they just shady and liars?
Don't Apple and Google sell my information, somehow?
