Like apoctr, I really want to like Wayland. I use it a lot on my laptop because it's mostly a note taking web browsing machine. But whenever I want to branch out of that, Wayland seems to get in my way.

Want to record a bit of my screen? None of the old dedicated apps work. There's a screen recorder built in to GNOME but there's no control over any of the encoding settings. There's a handful of GNOME extensions but they all also either give no control or unusable control in the form of having to write some gstreamer config that I wasn't able to find any simple documentation for.

Want to draw something or just take notes with a drawing tablet and pen? Wayland just doesn't tolerate it at all. Gets super glitchy and pressure doesn't seem to work at all. I usually end up chilling over on X still because the fancy new touchpad gestures aren't worth it.

And ofc my desktop is X11 24/7 because there's still no Nvidia support. Or no Nvidia support for Wayland if you want to shift blame to Nvidia's end. Point is, it doesn't work, and my Debian install was broken for months because of it before I realized that an update to GDM made Wayland the default, even when unsupported meaning my computer would no longer even boot to the login screen.

Did you check out the release higights linked? Drawing tablets and screen recording are specifically addressed.

We also now support drawing tablets, which you can bind to a specific output

You can also now do crazy stuff like having multiple mice with multiple cursors, and linking keyboards, mice, drawing tablets, and touchscreens to each other arbitrarily. You can now have your dvorak keyboard for normal use and a second qwerty keyboard for when your coworker comes over for a pair programming session. You can even give your coworker the ability to focus and type into separate windows from what you’re working on.

We also added two new protocols for capturing your screen: screencopy and dmabuf-export, respectively these are useful for screenshots and real-time screen capture, for example to live stream on Twitch.

Sorry, should have mentioned. I was referring more to my experiences with Wayland as a whole (specifically through my DE of choice, GNOME). I've heard lots of fantastic things about the Sway...

Sorry, should have mentioned. I was referring more to my experiences with Wayland as a whole (specifically through my DE of choice, GNOME). I've heard lots of fantastic things about the Sway dev(s?) playing nice with other projects and making significant progress towards making Wayland usable for all use cases.

AFAIK Plasma and GNOME offer good support these days.
