I just came across this article because I was trying to find something on YouTube (not the shooting video) and tried to use the search filters to restrict to videos posted in the last month, and realized they weren't working at all. Apparently they completely disabled the searching/sorting functions over 2 days ago as part of their efforts to make it harder to find these videos before they can take them down.
It really shows just how lacking most technology companies are at actually successfully grappling with the societal impacts of their products. They may be the master of algorithms & ad revenue...
It really shows just how lacking most technology companies are at actually successfully grappling with the societal impacts of their products. They may be the master of algorithms & ad revenue generation, but when it comes to correctly tempering their products to fit into a socially acceptable bucket in our modern world without causing discord, they've utterly failed.
Social media is almost certainly a net negative on the planet, at this point.
