    I have designed some safety systems around hydrogen, and I have learned that you shouldn't rely purely on a software solution.

    The best safety systems have well tested hardware solutions that are redundant. They don't even need to be mechanical like in the article. Electrical hardware solutions can very robust and you can build very complicated logic circuits with them.
